Abortion Bill Amendment of the Day: The Virginia state Senate went ahead today with a bill that would require pregnant women to obtain an ultrasound prior to an abortion, after rejecting a Democratic senator’s amendment that would have required men to undergo a rectal exam and cardiac stress test prior to obtaining erectile dysfunction medication.
The amendment’s author, Fairfax County Democrat Janet Howell, said she was merely trying to add “a little gender equality” to the bill.
“It’s requiring [women] to have unnecessary medical procedures, it’s adding to the cost and it’s opening them up for emotional blackmail,” she told her colleagues from the Senate floor. “And I was upset because it’s disrespectful of doctors. It’s forcing them to perform procedures they don’t think is necessary.”
She says she got the idea for the amendment after watching an erectile dysfunction drug ad which listed the pill’s myriad side effects.
“So, I said, it’s only fair, that if we’re going to subject women to unnecessary procedures, and we’re going to subject doctors to having to do things that they don’t think is medically advisory, well, Mr. President, I think we should just have a little gender equity here,” Howell said.
The amendment was ultimately defeated by a relatively narrow margin of 21 to 19. Meanwhile, Senate Bill 484 moves forward to a final floor vote tomorrow.

…what is the logic in needing an ultrasound before an abortion? You know its in there, you know you don’t want to be, the end. Fucking THE. END. World, do you even know how much an ultrasound actually costs to exist? Do you know how many people actually NEED ultrasounds for something that has a point and don’t get them because medical billing and insurance and policies such as these make the entire healthcare world ass-backwards? People should not have to undergo a completely unnecessary and expensive procedure unless for some reason there actually is a need, or the person consents to the procedure. In fact, isn’t it ILLEGAL to force someone into a medical procedure? FUCK THAT NOISE WORLD YOU ARE SO RIDICULOUS IT HURTS ME DEEP INSIDE.
On the other hand, yes, yes performing a helpful and diagnostic procedure such as a rectal exam and or cardiac stress test would actually be BENEFICIAL before going on a DRUG, ingesting a CHEMICAL that alters your HORMONES, to make sure there are no serious risks involved.
Maybe I am a silly unlicensed nursing aide who has no idea about anything, maybe an ultrasound before an abortion really would provide some sort of helpful and safe knowledge to the patient, oh but wait, I REALLY don’t think in most cases it ever would, and it’s actually just another sick and fucked up attempt to control our bodies and what we will do with them. FUCK. YOU.
We really can’t keep waisting our time and money here, world. Open up your fucking eyes!
